Try some of these hands-on reading activities to inspire and excite even the most reluctant readers. Your youngest learners will love creating fairy tale dice and weaving their own stories, crafting alphabet books, or bowling to strengthen phonics skills, while older kids will enjoy putting together a travel journal, writing and performing in. Some leveled books are also supported by fluency practice passages, reader's theater scripts, a writer's response activity, a literature circle journal, or might be part of a paired book set or other collection.. ALL the resources that support a book can be found on its home page.

Activities include looking at how illustrations relate to the book’s content, drawing characters and scenes from the story, coloring pictures, etc. Students can perform these tasks to put a creative spin on what they are reading, which will improve comprehension. Reading and book-based activities Reading with children develops their vocabulary, ability to listen and understand, and ability to connect sound and words. Your child might like these activities: Try books with rhyme, rhythm and repetition. Many children enjoy books by Dr Seuss and Pamela Allen – for example, The cat in the hat or Doodledum.

This literacy unit has question worksheets, vocabulary flashcards, and puzzles to go along with the third Magic Treehouse book, Mummies in the Morning. Magic Tree House #29 Christmas in Camelot. Jack and Annie go on a Christmas adventure to medieval times where they meet King Arthur, Lancelot, and the Knights of the Round Table. Academically, my PhD research was focused on language and literacy development among dual language learners. With the activities I share below, my goal has been to share engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate literacy activities for kids that parents, caregivers, and teachers can replicate at home or in the classroom.
